catch up with - to do something that you did not have time to do earlier​

After missing a few lessons, I need to catch up with my classmates.

carry on - to continue doing something

Daphne is carrying on the family tradition by becoming a lawyer.

 

carry out - to perform or complete a job or activity

We carried out all the teacher’s instructions.

 

Fall behind - to fail to do something fast enough or on time:

He was ill for six weeks and fell behind with his schoolwork.

Write down – to record information on paper:

If I don’t write it down, I’ll forget it.

 

make up for sth -  to compensate for something bad with something good

I'm taking extra lessons to make up for the time I missed.

 

point sth out - to make a person notice someone or something

I'd made one or two mistakes that she pointed out to me.

 

pile up - to increase

Exams are approaching and the work is starting to pile up.

 

take to - to start to like someone or something

Sam has really taken to his new school – he loves it!
